Kaevee was crestfallen after this, feeling that she had failed to help defend the Jedi when she might have been able to make a difference. She also kept Master Vrook's lightsaber, as her own had been lost when the Enclave had been bombed. Following Jedi custom, she cremated the bodies. Some time later she returned, only to find the bodies of Vrook Lamar as well as Masters Kavar and Zez-Kai Ell, all dead of lightsaber wounds. Caught off-guard, Kaevee assumed the invaders to be Sith and fled from the Enclave again. Surik and her companions killed a large number of laigreks and penetrated deeper into the sublevel than any salvagers previously had. Her recollection of the Jedi teachings grew increasingly vague and abstract, to the point that she eventually found herself unable to remember the Jedi Code.įive years after Malak's attack, the exiled Jedi Meetra Surik and her companions invaded the Enclave in search of Master Vrook Lamar, who had secretly gone into hiding on Dantooine after the end of the Jedi Civil War.
With no one to guide or direct her, Kaevee neglected to practice her skills and Force powers, causing some of them to atrophy. After finding that a nest of laigreks had occupied the Enclave's sublevel, she took control over them with the Force, using them to guard the sublevel against salvagers and other trespassers. Faced with their rejection, she turned to scavenging and stealing in order to survive on her own.Īfter the Sith had left Dantooine, Kaevee returned to the destroyed Jedi Enclave and stayed in the ruins, believing that the Jedi would one day return to Dantooine to complete her training. A Sith detachment patrolled the regions surrounding the Enclave for some weeks after the attack, brutalizing and murdering the Dantooine settlers while searching for surviving Jedi.ĭuring this time Kaevee tried to seek shelter among the settlers, only to find that they now hated the Jedi, blaming them for either provoking or failing to stop the Sith attack. However, Sith troopers soon arrived, killing the Matales and burning their home, and the Padawan fled deeper into the countryside. Being outside the Enclave when the attack began, Kaevee fled to the Matale estate, where her friend Shen Matale tried to hide her. Less than a year later, Darth Malak's forces struck the Enclave in a surprise attack, killing nearly all the Jedi there, presumably including Master Corsio. Her mentor, Master Emon Corsio, then formally chose her as his Padawan. She enjoyed a peaceful early life in the Enclave, passing the Initiate Trials at age twelve in 21,097 AR.
